About Me
Programmer | Traveler | Middle East Enthusiast | Lifelong Learner
I am a Washington DC-based software developer with experience primarily in React, Redux, JavaScript, and TypeScript as well as in Ruby on Rails and Nodes.js.
Beyond code, I am an avid international traveler (semi-retired backpacker and recently, rehabilitated scuba diver -- 37 dives and counting). My professional experience before becoming a developer includes running professional development programs for teachers on the Middle East at New York University as well as running a film festival at a Turkish nonprofit. Although not code-related, these are accomplishments that I am still proud of because I helped foster a more nuanced and humanistic understanding of the peoples of the Middle East for teachers and New Yorkers. Even though my day job is now as a programmer, my sensibilities are still much informed by my liberal arts educational background and I truly believe that that makes me a more valuable team player.
My first dev job was as a JavaScript Developer working on Naviance, a college & career readiness platform, at Hobsons. As of February 2020, I work as an IT Specialist (Software Developer) at the Refugee and Asylum Program within U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services.
